Ligaments, Bones, and the Church

Unity/ sundesmos/ masculine noun/ that which binds together, a band , bond (ex ligaments by which the members of the human body are united together) / that which is bound together, a bundle

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace Ephesians 4:3 NIV

They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes  it to grow Colossions 2:20 NIV

For I see that you that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin Acts 8:23 NIV

The church is like a body we are made up of different parts…some are the hands and feets, some are the veins and arteries, and some are like the pinky toe its small but plays an important part to the body. Sometimes the body gets hurt and we simply ignore it expecting it to go away. But sometimes those hurts are like bones breaking or ligaments tearing if we don’t go in and get those things either put in a cast or surgically repaired it does severe and permanent damaged to the body. What causes bones to break or ligaments torn? Dissension, apathy, not keeping the bond of peace, bitterness.

My heart breaks for the church right now. Over the last few months I have read article after article about what the church is doing wrong. We think its cool to be “cynical” of the church. The church doesnt need another cynic, what we need is someone to pray for her, someone to stop pointing out her many flaws and encourage her through the hard times someone to billed up that bond of peace.

God loves you so much but,He doesnt want us to commit spiritual suicide

2014 in review

2014 was a year of many ups and downs, here is Allen’s 2014 in review.

January, started out on a sour note with me looking for another job, but at my ministry credentials meeting the goal for me to find a youth pastor position somewhere in the next year was thought out. Started planning to go to Africa got passport finally!!!

April, went to Knippa with Noe had a great revival their

May-June, get a call from Michael Perkins to come to Corpus Christi, had an awesome time at Crave Camp. Week after camp went to Allende Cohuilla Mexico. God definitely opened my eyes, allowed me to do things I never though possible, and experienced things that grew me spiritually.

August came and checked out Corpus, and decided to move here.

October-November started refereeing Upwards football

November- started working at Target for the holidays

2015 is just a few days old and I know that I will overcome things I never thought possible. People are going to come and go, tears with be shed but as long as God is in the midst of it all I know I can overcome anything.

The Nativity Story a Christmas Story for All

Christmas time is my favorite time of the year, yes the presents, Christmas tree, and hot chocolate are nice. But, their is an even better reason for this season, and that is the birth of Jesus. I love the story of Joseph and Mary traveling to Bethlehem because of a census. When they are arrive at the Inn their is no room so they must stay in the barn and Mary gives birth to Jesus in a barn. Shepherds watching their flocks at night are encouraged by heavenly host to go to Bethlehem and see this new king. Wise men from the East follow a star to the barn and see Jesus in the manger bringing gold, frankincense, and myrrh (Allen paraphrase). Every Christmas I am reminded that this story isn’t just for Christians or a select group. Its a story for everyone young and old, rich and poor, Christian and non Christian. Let’s take a look at different characters and how we can relate…

Mary, the teenage mother, around the age of 12 or 13, and like most young mothers she is probably scared and unsure of whats happening, she is married to Joseph but is having a kid before she has slept with a man.

Joseph- the carpenter, works hard for a living doing “honest work”,  he is a descendant of King David, the husband of Mary, he was called out to do nothing.

the Shepherds- the were possibly the first to see Christ upon hearing the news from the angels, these men were probably dirty, smelt like sheep, and were probably poor. The Shepherds are a nice homage to David who before killing Goliath and being king was a shepherd.

The Wise Men/ Magi- Astrologers who came from the East following a star, the were pretty important because before seeing Jesus they meet with King Herod, they also bring gifts to Jesus. By the time they get here Jesus was already in a house.

Anna and Simeon- 2 characters that have small but important role in the Nativity Story, Anna is 84, she never leaves the temple staying their day and night, Simeon was a faithful and godly man who had promised that he wouldn’t die until he saw Jesus.

Everyone has a role in the Christmas story young and old, rich and poor, small and big parts. In the story of Christianity we also have a role to play it may be big role or small role but we all have a role in spreading the love of Christ to everyone.

What Does Success Really Look Like?

If I could take a picture of what success looks like it would be of a man leaning on a beautiful sports car parked in front of a gorgeous big house with his kids and wife standing on the porch waving with giant smiles plastered on their face. For me this is what success looked like and I believe that my life has been shaped by this picture. in 2010 my picture of success started to unravel and I believe God started changing the picture of success that I had in my head. In May 2010 I graduated from college and started onto the road of success but I couldn’t find a job and eventually moved in with my parents depending on them for transportation, food, and shelter. Eventually in October I got a job working overnights at Walmart, in February 2011 I quit because of pressure that I put on myself I eventually what told that I was suffering from depression. From February to June I didn’t leave my room except to go to church and to cook dinner for my family. In June 2011 I took a trip to Joplin Missouri to help with the tornado disaster relief that I believe was God divined, inspired, appointed this is where I believe God clearly called me to become a youth pastor. Which led me to grow, mature, discover a new picture of success. The Bible tells us what success is

Matt 6:31-34 NIV

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

.So for me what does success look like when I overcome depression, not worry about things that God will provide and when I can stand as Joshua 1:9 with Strength and Courage not Afraid or Discouraged, and when I realize that God is with me wherever I go.

Don’t You Forget About Me

So many times in the last couple of weeks I have heard the comment or something in the nature of “don’t forget about us”. Yes, I did move to Corpus Christi to become a youth pastor and will grow another church family unit but that doesn’t mean that I can forget the church family that I just left.

Paul writes it so eloquently when he says, I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. (‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭3-11‬ NIV).

That is exactly how I feel about you. I miss you everyday but I am thankful for what God is going to do through you and in you.

God has a plan and a purpose for you just take a step of faith and let Him take over the drivers seat.

Adventure in Mexico Day 1

Well today we arrived in Allende Mexico, and I am glad to finally get here. The past couple of days I have heard nothing but scary stories of the cartels killing 300 people and houses getting torn down. So before entering the country I was a little nervous but as soon as we met up with the pastor and ventured into Allende I felt a peace come over me. God is and is going to do a work in us and through us. Don’t know what to expect next but believing God has it planned already.

Please pray that Christ will use me someway even though I don’t speak much Spanish.

God Bless

Allen’s Next Adventure

Hey everyone well my journey with Camfel ended in December. It’s was sad and I may have shed some tears but I believed and am believing has things already planned out. So I got home in time for Christmas and began praying and applying for jobs and internships and one day while missing Camfel I starting looking for other opportunitie like Camfel that bring an awesome message to more people, which led me to look at the JESUS film and Campus Crusades. I started doing some researched on where they go specifically in Africa and when. Which led me to 2 places Ethiopia and Liberia, so I started looking at these countries and with this being my first time out of the country minus the one trip to Juarez I felt that Liberia was where I should go. So July 31-Aug 15 I will be traveling to Liberia. I honestly don’t know how I am going to pay for it but I am trusting in God and a free folks to sponsor me. So if you would like to donate please send email me at to find out how. Thanks for you prayers I could feel them on and off the word.
